Yes, a teenager could open an account themselves as long as they are over the age of 16, which is the minimum age for most of our adult savings accounts. Specific eligibility criteria apply.

If you're a parent or guardian and you already have a bank account with us, you could open a bank account for your 11-17 year old online quickly and easily.

You’ll need a few things to hand to start the application:

• a form of ID for yourself,
• your child's ID, and;
• proof of address for you both. 

If you're a teenager over the age of 16 and you have the relevant ID, you could open the account online yourself.

A NatWest current account can be opened for a child who is between 11 to 15 years old provided that the parent or guardian has a bank account with us already. A teenager could open an Adapt current account with us by themselves from the age of 16.

However, different banks may ask you for different types of information to open a current account depending on the child’s age.
